Angsto the Clown fights for free speech!
Best of Angsto
video (Angsto)
Angsto the Clown returns with "Best of Angsto", a funfilled frolic through the dark recesses of Columbus, Ohio, the armpit of America. After the successful dismissal of the federal obscenity lawsuit filed against him by Community 21, YOUR public access station, Angsto has filed a quarter million dollar suit against them and the city of Columbus for infringment of the first and fourteenth amendments, prior restraint and breach of contract. Free speech ain't so free kiddies! Look for Angsto on Community 21 late night and check out http://www.iwaynet.net/~angsto/ for loads of fun. Yes the shows are available, even the two the anals found so offensive they refuse to air!

Alibi Blue
Kat Balou's in Coshocton, Ohio July 11th and 12th
CD (Self produced)
Alibi Blue, a blues-influenced, rock band will be headlining Kat Balou's in Coshocton, Ohio Friday July 11th and Saturday July 12th. Alibi Blue features primarily original material with a few covers thrown in. They've been aired frequently on the Blitz's Local Stuff show and were recently featured in T-Rock Magazine. Alibi Blue features Beth Brown fronting the band with guitar work compared to that of Black Sabbath by the editor of T-Rock, but plays to a format ranging from rock ballads to hard rock. Coshocton is going to rock!

Brainiac Vocalist Killed in Car Accident
I have no further details than these:

Tim Taylor, the vocalist and moog man for Brainiac, died in a car accident Friday, May 23, 1997/Saturday, May 24, 1997. Evidently he was on his way home from a party in his home town of Dayton, Ohio.

Ron House
Anybody have a nice closeup of Ron's head they can email me? I need it for the Lynnfield Pioneers/Lampshop Records next issue (www.escape.com/~lampshop). Email ([email protected]). Thanks.

Moonspinners Spun Out
This is something I had heard was coming for awhile. Moonspinners, once a haven for folkies, acoustic types and open stagers, has closed its doors.

Economic Hard Times
Our local orginators of beercore (gotta give Carl credit for the genre name) and my favorite interview subjects have called it quits. Yes, after several ups and downs, the Econothugs have "officially" broken up. The way my roommate and I figure it, their last show, their swan song, was on his birthday ...

More Than Music Festival
The More than Music Fest (July 11, 12, 13 1997) is about the power of this community. It's about celebrating the wonderful diversity of this community. It's about realizing that this is not just about music; it's about our lives.

There's a lot more to hardcore/punk than bands, collecting records, how your pants look or any other of the stupid traps to which we often fall victim. So in addition to the rock we will be having time set aside for spoken word performances and workshops on issues that affect us. This is where you come in. We are currently looking for people to lead workshops and give spoken word performances in addition to the normal onslaught of bands (which we're also still looking for).

For more info please contact us at 1579 Indianola / Columbus, OH 43201.
Feel free to call at (614) 421.1269 ... Ask for Michael Thorn.

Wide Spectre
Colin of the Enlargements and the Boners is now playing drums with the Spectre. Bo Riley of the Enlargements and Mycelex 7 is playing guitar as well. The Spectre has also recently gained a new trombonist, Anne, and a Baritone sax player, Jesse, and is working with Shannon, a prospective singer. That'll make ten members, kids! Watch out!

- Colin (Mar 14, 1997)

New AR Sites
Anyway Records has a new URL, and I think it'll be a bit easier to remember: http://www.anyway-records.com/. This new domain also includes a few nifty extras including a secure ordering section!

Ian C. Stewart (ya may recognize his name from some reviews in Moo) just turned me on to his music web and printed zine, AUTOreverse. It's well worth an Indie peek.

New CD Brass Band
The New Basics Brass Band is putting the finishing touches on their CD. It could be out any time now.

- Joel (Mar 1, 1997)

Stuff It
I just saw the White-Out's stuffing record jackets for their new split 7" with the Hairy Patt Band. The Burnt Sienna release should be in stores any time now.

- Joel (Feb 28, 1997)

Big League Bliss Smile
So Bush League All-Stars are no more; but frontman Dan Spurgeon is already putting together another local "super group". As it stands, the new band includes Dan Cochran (Feversmile and Train Meets Truck) on bass, John Bellas (Bliss and Ouchcube) on drums and Bill Clark (Bigfoot and Heifer) on guitar, banjo & pedal steel. Sounds like a rock band ta me!

- Joel (Feb 27, 1997)

Comfy Cow
I've got Heifer's new It Will Be Comfortable CD in my grubby mits as I write. It's on Bluehouse Records (Ugly Stick and Bigfoot). Look for a review soon.

- Joel (Feb 27, 1997)

What Drums Around ...
Earwig recently lost their drummer Chuck Palmer to Columbus establishment, Arnette Howard. Earwig's new drummer is Chuck's old classmate Justin (Jive Turkeys). Frontman Lizard tells me they're planning to re-record everything for their next CD with Justin on drums.

- Joel (Feb 27, 1997)

Gene's ... You'll Be There
In case ya hadn't heard, the Stache's move to the old Gene's Furniture Store (N. High St. near 4th Ave.) has been delayed a month. It will be moved around May 1 instead of April 1. Never fear, Stache's head honcho, Dan Dougan, has the go ahead to stay at the current location another month.
